Theresa Blake (formerly Jones) trained at Wimbledon School of Art in period costume cutting and construction for film, television and the West End stage (ballet and opera). By combining this early training with her later experience in several major bridal houses, "Alternative" couture bridalwear design was inevitable. Today the resulting bespoke quality wedding gowns, corsets and ballet costumes are of
an extremely high standard, perfect finish, and fit like a glove. Enchanting couture wedding dresses and bridal corsets, inspired by Pre-Raphaelite art, Medieval and eighteenth century historical fashion, can be commissioned from a designer who also produces totally unique one-off contemporary designs.
Theresa divides her time between designing/ making bespoke wedding gowns, and constructing costume for prestigious ballet companies and award-winning competition dancers.

Credits include tutu and costume-making for the Royal Ballet,
Royal Shakespeare Companies, and Oscar-winning film and television costumiers, Angels. Theresa has made headdresses,
jewellery and tutus for major ballet companies including English National,
Scottish and Moscow Classical Ballet. She has worked with top couture bridal
designers including Basia Zarzycka and Ritva Westenius. The potential of positions with Vivienne Westwood and Elizabeth Emmanuel in the late 1990's inspired her to establish the Rossetti label and follow her own design inspirations, while maintaining her connections with the theatre.

Bridal
Most bridal clients approaching Rossetti are looking to commission an alternative (often coloured), one-off and made-to-measure wedding gown. Brides may wish to follow an existing Rossetti design, possibly varying fabrics and/or colours. Or, alternatively, they prefer to follow their own inspirations and enthusiasms, in combination with Theresa's advice and experience, to evolve a totally unique wedding dress of their own.
Wedding dress orders often break down into one of several categories (shown on menu, above, left) - couture wedding gowns inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite period of art and by Medieval period costume; corsets and wedding dresses inspired by 18th and 19th century historical costume, paintings of the period and films set in that era; or contemporary designs - possibly with period influences, and inevitably with a distinct use of colour.
Ballet
Made-to measure tutu commissions are usually from individual dancers (their teacher and mothers); established ballet companies; or from dancers who are attending major festivals and competitions such as the Prix de Lausanne, All England, or doing their Solo Seal exam. As with wedding orders, clients may request a copy or variation of an existing design, a made-to-measure tutu, or a totally new unique design.

Theresa is frequently asked to provide tuition on how to make ballet tutus. If you would like to register your interest in individual one-to-one sessions, or classes for small groups, please email (below). It would be helpful if you would specify your area of interest - tutu skirts, bodices or embellishment. Although best known for made-to-measure tutus, Rossetti is starting to design/construct Ready-to-Wear/ Sold-as-Seen classical ballet tutus (see Tutus category on menu). The (mainly one-off) costumes will be displayed on the web-site as soon as they are available. Measurements will be given for these costumes, and dancers will visit to see what fits well and suits. Only small while-you-wait alterations will be undertaken. We would like to become recognised as the place in the UK for the public to purchase "proper", professional, stage quality ballet tutus. Made-to-measure orders will eventually become an exception, and will be priced accordingly. Rossetti tutus are constucted in non-stretch, stretch fabrics (or a combination of both) depending on preference.
Rossetti has recently designed "Odette" and "Odile"- Black Swan and White Swan costumes, (middle right) for ITV1's "Midsomer Murders" (ALL3MEDIA/Bentley Productions), aired on January 11th 2012. (Available now on DVD).

I am inspired by the sensuousness and flowing lines of Pre-Raphaelite paintings - especially those by Rossetti, Waterhouse, Kate Bunce, and Burne Jones. This, inevitably leads to an enthusiasm for ethereal and elvish Medieval styles. At the other extreme I love the elegance and potential for extravagant embellishment offered by eighteenth century costume. From the stylish charm of an Elizabeth Swann-type wedding dress, via Watteau's famous paintings, to Marie Antoinette's elaborate grandeur, the eighteenth century lends itself perfectly to the most sumptuous style of bridal gown and I go there again and again.
