The character of The Fairy of the Crystal Fountain from the "Sleeping Beauty" was something I first read of in Lorna Hill's famous series of Sadler's Wells books. As I grew up,and watched many different productions of "Beauty" by large and small ballet companies, and eventually worked on it myself, I became aware of how these fairies names were as variable as their famous variations! Candor, Candide, Breadcrumb, Finger, Violente, Singing canary, Golden Vine, Fairies of the Enchanted Garden, the Woodland Glade....
This plate-shaped tutu has a pale blue base: a satin bodice overlaid with lace and a soft blue net skirt, again overlaid with bordered lace. Irridescent beads, crystal drops, sequins, stones and crystal ribbon flowers ensure that the tutu is constantly sparkling as the dancer moves.
This is a new "Rossetti" classical ballet tutu - available for sale to any dancer who fits it properly.
As with all Rossetti tutus, once this costume has been sold, it can still can be made-to-measure to your specifications;
fabric, decoration and colour can be varied (please enquire). At present, this costume can be reproduced exactly.
All items are constructed to professional performance standards as used by
the major UK ballet companies.
If you would like to try this tutu on it would fit (approximately) 29"-31" chest, 31"-32" upper hip, 34"-35" largest part of hip, waist approx 26"- 27". The skirt is 13.5" - measured out from the hip to the edge of the lace. All of these measurements are approximate. I am often asked to part with tutus without meeting the dancer it is intended for; I would strongly recommend making an appointment to try the costume on (over a leotard and tights, please). Small variations in back length and waist to hip length can greatly affect the fit of a costume, even if the dancer's bust, hips and waist measurements are identical to the actual tutu.
A tutu with this amount of decoration is £550 to buy as shown; or £650 made-to-measure to order - including colour variations.
This design could look very different constructed in alternative colours: black lace, sequins and beadwork over red or white net for "Don Quixote"; gold lace over royal blue....
