Victorian Style Gown

"Tissot"

Bustle-effect wedding gown, embellished with silk roses

We took the gist of a 19th century ballgown and applied a little of the 21st century! The gown above is simply two pieces - a skirt with draped back and a corseted bodice, lacing at the back. It is shown in a silver/grey silk, with silver chantilly lace and pink silk flowers as embellishment. Fabric types and colours are entirely interchangeable, according to personal taste. The corseted bodice has classically nineteenth century-style pleats in the back to sit over the bustle swags.

An authentic victorian evening gown of the 1870 - 1880's would incorporate a corset (worn over a chemise), plus a boned bodice; a bustle frame; plus petticoats; plus the actual draped skirt. And probably an additional overskirt.. and draped apron front... And all that is before you start applying fringeing, pleating, flounces of lace, flowers, beadwork....! This can all look (and feel) wonderful, as some of my clients have found, but is a little convoluted for some people's taste. If you do have your heart set on a really accurate reproduction period costume please say so, because this is a different kind of order.

The gown above is held as a studio sample to view or try on.
It is approx size 14 - Bust: 37"-38", waist: 31"-32"; lower hip: 37"- 40"
